The first plane that was completely made of metal was build 1915 from leutnant from Malinckrodt. The weight of the plane was arround one ton but it took off already after just 40 meters. That was a positive surprise for the viewers. Not only the metal on the body and the wings from the airplane was new also the propeller was made out of steal. The plane was called: Stealdonkey
Then the idea was coming how to use a plane in war....
