The beginning of the thinking about flying

Already for hundred of years the people dreamed from flying in air. But they thought that it would be impossible to fly. But instead they exogitated storys and legends about flying people. A example for that is the greek story from Deadalus and Icarus.
Because they were captured on an island they build by themself wings made of wooden slats, wax, and feathers. So they escaped from the island but the son from Deadalus was flying to high so that the heat of the sun fused the wax and Icarus dies.
